Helmet Shell

+++++ On March 15th 2002, the ROCKMAN helmet was awarded the prize for innovation in Health and Safety in the Workplace by the German Quarry Industry Association. ++++++++++++++++

Energy absorbing Shape

The innovative shell is based on the principles used in Formula 1 car production, in which the rigid yet flexible cage absorbs significant amounts of impact energy by partial deformation.

Conventional Shape:

The classic helmet shape absorbs very little energy and leaves all impact reduction to the harness.

Lighter Weight, greater comfort 299 g (C4)

Modern Technology and good design gives on ENHA C4 4 textile harness helmet a weight of 299 g and enhanced rigidity. More comfort, more safety.

Normal weight = Overweight

A Classic 4 point harness helmet can weigh up to 350g. The days when additional weight meant more safety are gone.

Ventilation which DOES work

Warm air rises. So ventilation holes need to be at the top of the helmet shell to expel hot air where it gathers and to draw in cool air from below. The unique shape of the crown on the ENHA shell allows this to happen more effectively than with traditional helmets.

Ventilation holes which don't ventilate?

Many conventional ventilation systems don't work well. They're wrongly sited.

Good Idea

The crown on all Rockman helmets has a scratch resistant roughened matt finish to protect the helmet surface when stored upside down.

High Efficiency

All Rockman helmets have an integral rain channel and 30mm accessory slot to accommodate helmet mounted accessories.

No Rain Channel? No Slot?

If it comes to work outside, a helmet without a good rain channel is useles, as is a helmet without inbuilt slots to take essential helmet-mounted accessories such as ear defenders and visors.

No Sharp Edges

In ENHA helmets the harness clips into the shell via an inbuilt ring of fittigs which eliminate any possibility of sharp edges coming into contact with the head in the case of offcentre impact.

High Risk?

Sharp edges or moulded eyes for chin straps can be dangerous in the event of lateral impact if they contact the head when the helmet turns.

Helmet Harness

DeFormaTec System (pat.)*

The ROCKMAN helmet incorporates a number of new patents aimed at reducing impact energy. The main innovation is the new DeFormaTecTM system which reacts instantly to absorb impact energy before it can reach the wearer. 12 DeFormaTec connectors spaced evenly around the helmet interior ensure that the System works even if the impact strikes offcentre.

*Optional

The impact curve above demonstrates how the ROCKMAN helmet, even if hit with far more energy than required by EN 397 testing, passes far less energy to the wearer's head than the standard tolerates (5000N).

Absorption by deformation ?

Conventional harnesses have no equivalent to teh DeFormaTecTM system. The conventional reaction to impact is a minor stretching of the textile straps (if the helmet has them) and deformation of the harness, which falls far short of efficient impact reduction. The rest of the impact is passed on the wearer's head.

Self releasing chinstrap mount

ROCKMAN helmets protect the wearer by means of a self-releasing hook, which is integrated in the headband, against the danger of strangulation. If the helmet is removed forcibly from the head, the chin strap will be released automatically, protecting the wearer from beeing injured by his own helmet.

Non flexible chinstrap mount

If a helmet is fitted with a moulded chinstrap mount, the wearer can be strangled if the helmet is wrenched on the head.

Antislip Headband *

All ROCKMAN helmets are equipped with a unique antislip headband specially angeld to help keep the helmet fitting snugly to the head even when working at extreme positions.

*Optional

Slip protected ?

Traditional helmet harnesses try to grip the head by enlarging the headband into the neck area. Some do too well and the helmet slides forward every time you look up.

Pinlock adjustment

Our designers wanted to keep it simple, so that anyone can pick up a ROCKMAN helmet and understand the mechanism immediately. Adjustment is simple and precise.

An optional one-hand ratchet adjustment system is also avialable, which allows for micro-adjustment whilst the helmet is beeing worn, via a ratchet knob at the rear.

Standard Head Adjustment ?

The most common headband adjustment is an awkward concoction that has to be operated by pressing 2 different points of the headband with one hand. If a user is not familiar with it he can spend all day trying to get it right, or end up with a broken harness.

Eurpean Standards

A deparment of this body is responsible for testing to EN 397. All safety helmets MUST meet minimum standards laid down in EN 397. The may also be submitted to optional additional test.

Mandatory Test

If the helmet complies to the mandatory standards, the helmet may be marked with the CE logo.

Additional optional tests include:

Marking

1. Electrical Insulation 440 VAC
2. Very Low Temperature - 20° C or- 30° C
3. Very High Temperature + 150° C
4. Lateral Deformation LD
5. Molten Metal Splash MM

ROCKMAN helmets exceed the mandatory requirements of EN 397 by a very large margin. In addition every ROCKMAN helmet model complies with at least one of the additional optional requirements. The use of different moulding compounds like Heavy Duty Polyethnlene, ABS or Glass Fibre reinforced Polycarbonate allows exact adjustment to each workplace environment.
